Doris Marie Ginger

Doris Marie (Clark) Ginger, 92, of Spencer, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, peacefully at her home. Doris was born March 26, 1922, in Milford, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Alexander) Clark. She grew up in Milford, IA, where she graduated High School, graduating in 1941. A highlight of her teenage years was being named 'Miss Milford' in 1942. On February 14, 1944, she married Leo Burdette Mann. They were together for 7 years. On March 15, 1951, Leo passed away. She later met Robert Dale Ginger, and on August 29, 1952, they were married and settled in Spencer, IA. Robert passed away September 19, 1993. Doris worked as a sales associate for Avon for 17 years and also for Sernett's for 17 years. Later on in life, she began working for Arts on Grand and was there for 18 years. She also was a member of the Auxiliary for the Spencer Hospital. In 2012, Doris received a plaque for 50 years as a floriculture exhibitor at the Clay County Fair. More than anything, she loved to entertain for her friends and family. In 2004, she hosted Arts On Grand's Bach and Blues, and then again in 2010. Doris had an avid love of music. She was always willing to play her grand piano for anyone and everyone. A usual song you could hear her play, and one her favorites was, 'Bourbon Street, Saturday Night'. When she wasn't playing piano, she loved spending time in her garden. Doris was also a very talented artist. Her oil paintings can now be seen in the homes of her children, grandchildren and friends. Family was very important to Doris. She loved spending time with them and she will be greatly missed by all. Doris was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. She was also a member of the Clay County Federated Garden Club and Arts on Grand. Survivors include her three children, Jeanine (Steve) Hall, Robert (Kristina) Ginger, and Peggy (Steven) Palm, all of Spencer; thirteen grandchildren, Jessica (Jim), Adam (Katie), Brady, Angela (Matt), Kristin (Brent), Kellie, Gabriel, Hollie, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Zachary, Drew, and Derek; nine great-grandchildren: Brielle, Sammy, Alexandra, Brooklyn, Uriah, Dax, Tatum, Jordy James and Lexie; one sister, Shirley Gould; one brother, Jerry Clark, both of Milford; several nieces and nephews; and many many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; infant son, Joey; brother, Virgil; sister, Betty; and her first husband, Leo. Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Doris.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
