Doris Marie Kalvig

Doris Marie Kalvig, the daughter of Alvin and Esther (Hetland) Falla was born on November 13, 1932 on a farm by Arlington, SD where she grew up. After graduating from High School, she married Dean Kalvig on March 4, 1950, in Brookings SD. To this union 3 children were born, Alan Kalvig, Susanne Hallett, and Camilla Uittenbogaard.

While living in Arlington SD, Doris worked with the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, was a member of the "Stitch & Stir Extension Club" and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She moved to Spencer, IA with her family in 1964. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church serving as an officer in BLCW and Circles. She worked on and designed many of the church banners (Being called the Banner Lady!) Not to mention the Easter Butterfly. She was very dedicated to running up to church to do whatever needed to be done.

Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, doing needlepoint Norwegian wall hangings, and hosting Holiday Dinners. She was always the Hostess with the Mostess!

Doris passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, at St. Luke Nursing Home in Spencer, IA at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents, one brother, Donald Falla, and one sister Illya Mae Jensen.

Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Alan Kalvig, Susanne Hallett (Mark) and Cammy Uittenbogaard (Jerry), 5 grandchildren, Mara, Kyle, Jeff, Emily, Todd, and 10 greatgrandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Doris will be remembered as a strong and loving Wife, Mom, and Grandma who was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
