Doris Meyer

July 1, 1926 — April 14, 2013

Doris Meyer nee Smith, the daughter of Charles and Ada (Carter) Smith, was born July 1, 1926, in Doncaster, England. Her childhood years were spent in England, with her nine siblings, where she received her education. She was a veteran of the British Navy during WW II, where she served as supervising officers' cook. Doris married Donovan Meyer on April 20, 1945, in Yorkshire, England. After coming to the United States, Doris lived in Peterson, IA and Mankato, MN where she worked as a corporate bookkeeper. She was very gracious, soft spoken, well-read and intelligent person. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, IA. She also lived in Libertyville, IL for 28 years, the last five residing at Spring Meadows Assisted Living Residence. Doris passed away in Libertyville, IL on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan, on August 28, 2002 of England; her eight siblings: Gladys, Alec, Stanley, Elsie, Hilda, Edwin, Granville and Margaret. Left to cherish her memory are her six children and their spouses: Carol (Roger) Swanson of Peekskill, NY, Duane Meyer of St. Louis, MO, Dean (Joann) Meyer of Machesney Park, IL, Donovan (Lola) Meyer of Ringsted, IA, Andrea (Richard) Mohrmann of Lake Bluff, IL and Douglas (Jennifer) Meyer of Turner, OR; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Ida Tibble and other relatives and many friends In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Peterson Heritage, P.O. SERVICES

Funeral services will take place 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 20, at the First Congregational Church in Peterson.
