Dorothy Adams

Dorothy Laurine Grotte was born in Clear Lake, Iowa to Otto Ben and Mae (Foster) Grotte. In 1919 the family moved to Sac City, where Dorothy attended kindergarten. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Carroll, Iowa where the Grotte's purchased a bakery that Dorothy reminisced about frequently. Her parents moved to Spencer in 1935, the following year Dorothy joined them and went to work at J.C. Penny. It was in Spencer that she met her love James 'Jerry' Adams and wed in 1939. Dorothy and Jerry built there life-long residence in Spencer and in 1941 she left J.C. Penney to work at Schoeneman's Lumber Company. In 1947 and 1949 Dorothy and Jerry welcomed their son,Jay and their daughter, Laura into their life. Dorothy then returned to J.C. Penney in 1956 where she was a dedicated employee for the next 35 years until she retired at the age of 62. Dorothy was one of the founders of the Damma Phi Datum social sorority, a life-long member of the Grace Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and for many years an active member of the former Drama Club. Along with bridge, and a good joke, Dorothy especially enjoyed dancing with her husband, Jerry and frequently reminded her grandchildren: Adrienne Adams of Virginia Beach, VA and Brenden Adams of Austin, TX, the importance of finding a spouse whom you could share your interests with. Dorothy was always a woman held in high regard and sought after for her practical words of wisdom. Dorothy Adams passed away in her sleep on September 30th, 2011, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jay of St. Cloud, MN; her daughter, Laura A. Meyer of Dallas TX; two grandchildren: Adrienne Adams of Virginia Beach, VA and Brenden Adams of Austin, TX; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 1:30P.M., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Warner Funeral Home.

Private Family Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
