Dorothy Ann Taylor, the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Engstrom) McCarty, was born on November 7, 1921, in Boone IA. Her childhood years were spent in Springfield, MO, where she received her education, graduating from Springfield High School. After graduation, she attended Iowa Lakes Community College for one year and studied to be a L.P.N.
Dorothy married Chester "Chet" Taylor on May 15, 1941 in Ozark, MO. Following their marriage, they lived in Missouri for a short time. In 1943, Dorothy moved to Spencer, while Chet was in the military, and worked at the Spencer Municipal Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dorothy worked there for over 34 years before retiring in 1995. Dorothy was an active member of the First Congregational Church. She also was a member of the Library Board, Benevolence Society, Tops Club, Rebekah Lodge, Golden K Kiwanis and the Agnes Felt Guild.
Dorothy passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Northshire Residence at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet in 2008; one sister, Marilyn Booth and one brother, Raymond "Alf" McCarty.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jane Nelson and her husband, Dave of Spencer, IA; three sons: Gary Taylor and his wife, Beverley of Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Dennis Taylor and his wife, Linda of Spencer, IA and Timothy Taylor and his wife, Sherry of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren & great grandchildren & one sister, Harriet Thomas of West Bend, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 1:30P.M., Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
