Dorothy Ida Beck

Dorothy Ida (Scott) Beck entered eternal life peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024. She was born on August 22, 1928, to Eldridge and Mabel (Miller) Scott in a farm house 3 miles north of Rossie. She graduated from Rossie Consolidated School in 1946. She married Ralph Beck on August 25, 1946. To this union, four children were born: Linda, Thomas, Norman, and Dennis. After Norman’s passing, she and Ralph raised his two children, Jennifer & Nathan.

She was a homemaker for many years before she went to work at Younkers, where she remained for over 20 years until it closed. She then worked at the Mirrors Image in downtown Spencer for several years.

She enjoyed visiting several countries with sons Tom and Dennis, including England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Israel, and Egypt. She and Ralph took an Alaskan cruise and went on numerous other vacations, several to the Black Hills. After Ralph’s passing, she went on many bus trips with friends.

In addition to traveling, Dorothy enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, & playing games on her phone. She would exhibit her sewing, baking, and canning skills at the Clay County Fair and won many ribbons. In her last years, she enjoyed playing Mexican train dominos almost every evening with dear friends she made when she moved to Golfview Condominiums -- Jeanette Sherman, Gloria Tingle and Marjie Betz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, sons Tom and Norman, granddaughter Mackensie Ann Beck, grandson Nathan Beck, brother William Scott, son-in-law Bill Carpenter and son-in-law David Maske.

She is survived by her son Dennis Beck, daughter Linda Maske, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to People for Pets as Dorothy did every year.
