Dorothy “Dottie” Marie McEntee, the daughter of Bernard Matthew and Margaret Corsini Murray Steffen, was born May 5, 1923, in the Kingsley area. The family moved to the Spencer area at a young age. She received her early education and graduated from Spencer High School in 1940. Dottie continued her education from American Institute of Business in 1942.
Dottie married Lawrence “Mack” McEntee on December 27, 1943, when he came home from Europe on Leave from World War II. While Mack was in the Army, Dottie worked for Cornwall & Cornwall Attorneys in Spencer, then followed him to Camp Campbell working in Purchasing and Contracting for Civil Service. Upon returning to Spencer, she worked at Farmers Bank until began working in 1956 for Drs. Jones and Fieselmann which grew to become Spencer Medical Associates. Dottie retired in 1991 as the Clinic Manager. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, CDA, American Legion Aux., V.F.W. Aux., Questers. She served as Consultant for Spencer School of Business for Medical Assistant Program and following her retirement, Dottie volunteered at Spencer Family YMCA.
Mrs. McEntee passed away on February 9, 2020 at Northshire Residence in Spencer at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mack; brothers: Verlyn “Bud” (Dorothy) Steffen, Wyman (Kay) Steffen and Leo Steffen; and sister-in-law, Sally Steffen.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori McEntee Clark of Spencer; son, Daniel (Jeanne) McEntee of Spencer; 4 grandchildren: John (Janelle) McEntee, Jill (Luke) Sears, Christy (Boone) Bjorklund and Mallory Clark; 7 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Marc Clark; brother, Kenneth Steffen of Ottumwa, IA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Steffen of Carroll, IA and Ann Matthews of Mission, KS; other relatives and friends.
