Dorothy Helen Hoover

Dorothy Helen Hoover, age 97, of Riverview Terrace, Spencer, Iowa peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at the Spencer Hospital surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on March 5, 1910 to May and Ernest Belknap on a farm southwest of Webb, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Webb School in 1928. She married Raymond Hoover on July 28, 1928. They were blessed with four children. They farmed in the Ayrshire and Marathon communities during their life together. They worked hard to provide a living and a loving home for their family. Raymond passed away in March of 1971. Dorothy moved to Sioux Rapids, Iowa and was employed at the Sioux Care Center. During her years, she worked as a team member to provide the residents with the best quality of life possible. Shortly after her retirement, Dorothy moved to The Highlands in Spencer. In the fall of 2005, she transferred to Riverview Terrace and was living there when she became ill. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, golf, playing cards and spending time with her family. She learned to play golf at the age of 70 and bridge at the age of 80. During her life, she was an active member of the Methodist Church of Webb, Iowa, the United Methodist Church of Marathon, the First United Church of Sioux Rapids and most recently was a member of the First Congregational Church of Spencer. She served on many committees, was a member of the U.M.W and the Women's Fellowship. She was also a charter member of the Happy 12 Club and remained a member for almost 60 years. Just recently, she organized a 500-card club with some of her fellow residents at Riverview Terrace. She will forever be remembered by her children: Jerry Lou Howe of Marathon, Gordon Hoover and his wife, Beverly of Ft. Dodge, Shirley Forry and her husband, Jim of Sparta, GA and Cliff Hoover and his wife, Bonnie of Spencer; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, Raymond Hoover; her parents; an infant son; and her sisters: Wilda Curry and Catherine Schober.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 13, 2007 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
