Dorothy Idell Markley, the daughter of John and Ida (McGee) Yelland, was born on May 20, 1928 in South Dakota. She was raised and received her early education in Moneta and Onawa, IA, graduating from high school there in 1947. After high school, she worked as a waitress.
On August 20, 1947, Dorothy married Guy Markley in Dakota City, NE. Following their marriage, she lived in the Fostoria and Spencer area, where Guy was a self-employed well digger and certified welder. Dorothy also helped Guy with his business. Guy had a stroke in the mid 1970's and Dorothy stayed home to take care of him along with her mother. Dorothy loved to be home and kept it nice. She also loved her church and was devoted to her faith. She liked to spend time with her friends and enjoyed eating out with them. Letter writing was so important to her.
