Dorothy Mae Pingel, the daughter of Clarence and Elsie Joines Phillips, was born October 26, 1923 in rural Larrabee, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the rural Larrabee/Calumet area, where she received her education, graduating from Calumet High School. She was also an active in Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was baptized on July 30, 1943 and confirmed on August 1, 1943 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
Dorothy married LeRoy Pingel on June 6, 1943 in Sutherland, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near Sutherland for many years. She also remained active at Bethel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, bible school and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Dorothy moved to the town of Sutherland five years ago.
She passed away at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Iowa on Monday, November 19, 2007 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert in 1990; her husband, LeRoy in 1998 and one sister, Opal Harris.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Nancy and her husband, Gary Jungjohan of Sutherland and Cheryl and her husband, Frank Fogelman of Sutherland; a daughter-in-law, Jean Pingel of Sutherland; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Alice and her husband, Charles Lanham of Rapid City, SD; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
