Dorothy C. Veitch, the daughter of Walter and Elsie (Coleman) Henry, was born in Linden, Iowa. As a child, the family lived in communities of Linden, Everly, Hartley and eventually settling in Spencer. Dorothy graduated from Spencer High School in 1935. Following graduation, she worked at the JCPenney Department Store in Spencer. While Donald was involved in WWII, Dorothy lived with family in Medford, Oregon, where she also worked for JCPenney.
On July 12, 1945, Dorothy married Donald Veitch in Spencer. Dorothy raised her family and was a homemaker. As their children turned older, she returned to work at JCPenney until the South Park Mall store opened, at which time she retired. She was very active being a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader for many years; taught Sunday school; was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star and a Shriner's wife, attending all the parades; and involved with the Iowa Lakes Car Club. Dorothy liked to garden, and made the best pumpkin and lemon meringue pies. She also baked Santa Claus cookies and gave them away and also traded them with a guy who made anise candy.
Dorothy passed away on October 29, 2016, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2009; four sisters and two brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patt Anderson and husband, Eric of Spirit Lake, IA; son, George Veitch and wife, LeAnne McGranahan of Papaaloa, HI; granddaughter, Chantelle Foote and husband, Bob and their three children: Regen, Zachary and Reilly of Lake Stevens, WA; other relatives and many friends.
