Dorris Mulford Brooks, the daughter of Alfred Clark Mulford and Anna Caroline Vorwerck, was born September 7, 1924 in West Orange, New Jersey.
Dorris married Frank A. Brooks, Jr. on August 11, 1951 in West Orange, NJ. Following their marriage, they lived for a short time in Washington, D.C. until becoming longtime residents of Morris Plains, NJ. Dorris was active in many civic projects. She served as President of Parents Teacher Association for 6 years, Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of Sunday School. She also served as President of Republican Club for 2 terms, Chairman of Recreation Commission were she was instrumental bringing the first swimming pool to the community. Dorris would say her greatest accomplishment was being the mother of 4 children.
After raising her children, Dorris and Frank moved to Florida in 1987, residing in Brownsville and Port St Luci. Dorris visited the Spencer area for many years and in 1996, she lived part time at Lake Okoboji where she purchased a home. In 2005, she moved into the Highlands.
Dorris passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the
age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years; and 5 siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children: Nancy (Steve) Myers of Shreve, OH, Frank A. Brooks III of West Hollywood, CA, Barbara (Rick) Wilkerson of Spencer, IA and Geoffrey (Crary) Books of Morristown, NJ; 15 grandchildren: Erin (Tony) Lewis, Brooks Meyers, Noah (Karen) Myers, Lauren (Porter) Hall, Cara (Mark) Ivey, Greg Wilkerson, Matt Wilkerson, Will Brooks, Arthur Brooks, Kate Wilkerson, Daniel Wilkerson, Charlie Brooks, Breanna Wilkerson, Betsy Brooks and Junior Wilkerson; 4 great-grandchildren: Maddie, Adella, Kennedy and Titus; 2 sisters: Audrey Dwryer of Jacksonville, FL and Fern McDonald of Indianapolis, IN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to LOVE Takes Root or Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at First Congregational Church in Spencer.
