Dortha Margaret Johnson, the daughter of Henry and Clara Wheeler Huntress, was born May 14, 1922, in Arlington, South Dakota. She received her early education and graduated from the Peterson High School in 1940. Dortha served for 3 years in the United States Navy as a Communications Specialist 3rd Class.
On May 15, 1946, Dortha married Kenneth "Jack" Johnson. The two of them owned and operated Johnson Truck Line and later started Spencer Brokerage. She was a member of the First Christian Church since 1954, a 50-year member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Women of the Moose and a 50-year member of the Eagles Auxiliary. In her spare time, Dortha enjoyed dancing, bowling and golfing but most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her granddaughter and great grandson.
Dortha passed away on May 5, 2010 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 87. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1974; four brothers, Roger, Lionel, Ray and Richard
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Kenneth Hicks of Spencer; granddaughter and her husband, Christine and Temi Otaniyi of Spencer; great grandson, Temi Otaniyi; one sister, Wilda Wetherell of Peterson; one sister-in-law, Marcella Huntress of Milford; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Spencer.
