Douglas Bodenhamer

July 22, 1951 — May 8, 2010

Douglas Wayne Bodenhamer, the son of Wayne Elza and Gladys "Birdie" (Birchard) Bodenhamer, was born July 22, 1951 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Peterson, where he received his early education, graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 1969. Following high school, he continued his education, graduating from Iowa State University. Doug married Susan Kay Petring on December 1, 1973 in Norfolk, NE. During the early years of their marriage, Doug and Sue lived on a farm seven miles north of Peterson. They moved to their current home where they have lived 32 years. For all of his adult life, he operated a cattle and grain farm and became a co-owner of Lizer Livestock. He was involved in the Peterson Community as a member of the United Methodist Church, Lion's Club, Clay County Cattleman's Association and was a friend, neighbor and supporter of all area events. Doug loved to visit and he filled the room with his warmth and charm and reflected all that was good and positive. He was a lover of nature and had an uncanny ability to spot wildlife. Doug championed young livestock raisers and others. He cherished time spent with his friends and most of all, with his family. Doug passed away unexpectedly at his home near Peterson on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Bodenhamer and Birdie's husband, Howard Tibbetts. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue of Peterson; three daughters: Lisa and her husband, Joe Androski of Arlington, VA, Renee and her husband, Tom Boyd of Denver, CO and Michelle Bodenhamer of Driggs, ID; two grandchildren: Lucy Kay and Sally Jane; his mother, Birdie Tibbetts of Peterson; one sister, Karen Collette and her husband, Bill of Jefferson, SD; one brother, Greg Bodenhamer and his wife, Cheryl of Rapid City, SD; other relatives and many, many friends.
