Douglas William Vodraska was born March 19, 1963. Doug was born in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Francis and Rita (Schreier) Vodraska. Doug attended high school in Spencer, IA. On May 11, 2019 he married the love of his life Sherry Vodraska at Living Word Outreach in Spencer. They reside at his family home in Spencer.
Doug worked most of his life. Doug worked at IBP in Storm Lake, Iowa for seven years. Then he went to find another adventure working at Shine Brothers for approximately eleven years and then went to work for the City of Spencer. From there he went to find his dream job as a truck driver for the elevators here in Spencer. He started with Great Lakes Elevator from May 2005-April 2008 and when the company got sold and became Green Plains he worked from April 2008- December 2012. The company got sold again and it then became The Andersen's. He worked for them from December 2012-April 2016 when Max Yield bought it out and Doug drove for them from May 2016 until he was diagnosed with cancer. He was finally let go in May 2019 due to the cancer spreading.
Doug was an active member of Living Word Outreach for seventeen years where he found the Lord. He also loved driving bus for kids club and armadillo club. He loved picking the kids up and driving them home.
In his free time Doug enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and riding his bike across Iowa in RAGBRAI. He did this actively for seven years with one of his best friends and co-pilot, Becky Nielsen. Doug loved going for coffee with his coffee buddies, Brandon Kruse and Ivan Kruse. He loved getting groceries for Sisters Mainstreet Cafe on Grand for Deb Marlow. Doug enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family especially around a good old bonfire outside his home. Doug was a huge Denver Bronco fan. He also enjoyed going to the Spencer fair grounds and watching Roger Tripp race.
Doug will be remembered by his wife, Sherry Vodraska of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Holly Vodraska and her special friend from Cedar Rapids, IA; his two brothers: Kevin Vodraska and his wife, Jackie of Spencer IA and Brian Vodraska and his wife, Gina of Aurora CO; his aunt, Pat Jensen of Gilmore City, IA; aunt, Bernadine Rice of Pocahontas, IA; uncle, Joe Vodraska of Primghar, IA; uncle, Tom Vodraska of Osceola, IA; his step mom, Carolyn Petersen from Rockwell City, IA; father-in-law, Roger Updike, Sr.; brother-in-law, Roger Updike and his wife, Brenda of Spencer, IA; sisters-in-law: Dawn Updike of Cherokee, IA, Teresa Updike of Sioux City IA and Michelle Nelson and her husband, Cliff of Cherokee; and brother-in-law Ricki Updike and his wife, Sarah of Sheldon, IA and many cousins. His nieces and nephews are: Jacob and Kevin, Jr., Kimberly and Keith Vodraska, Amanda Person, Cassie and Zack Vodraska and his step kids: Dustin, Samantha and Andrew Miller.
Doug is preceded in death by his grandpa, Louis Vodraska (1966); his mother, his brother, Ricki Vodraska (1972); grandma, Evelyn Vodraska (1997); his mother-in-law, Glenda Updike (2004); aunt, Marcy McCord (2014); his dad, Francis Vodraska (2015); his mother, Rita (Schreier) Vodraska (1970); Kathy Fitzgerald (2018); uncle, Larry Vodraska (2018); aunt, Dawn Vodraska (2019) and Maxine Williams (2010).
