Harry was born on March 3, 1925 in Denison, Iowa to Donald D. Rasdal and Harriet R. (Chamberlain) Rasdal. Part of the Rasdal family occupation required frequent moves to other cities with the same employer. High school was in Charles City, Iowa in 1943 with immediate Army service following graduation. Some college level courses were completed while in uniform. He was in combat in France, Belgium, and Germany.
Upon discharge he enrolled in an accelerated Optometric course with a degree of Doctor of Optometry. In January of 1950 he started a practice in Lake City, Iowa. There he met and married Helen Johnson where they had a son, David, and later a daughter, Diane. In the summer of 1955 they moved to Marshalltown where he became a staff member of the Wolfe Eye Clinic. In 1956 son Don was born. December of 1967 he resigned from the clinic to help his friend Bob Ray in his initial successful run for Governor. At the conclusion of the campaign he joined the practice of Dr. Dick Fair. The family moved to Spencer in January of 1969. Later he purchased the second half of the practice and in 1980 he joined his practice with Dr. Klein. Dr. Boeke, Dr. Rose, and Dr. Paul Martin. Dr. Martin and Dr. Rasdal moved into their new special designed eye care building in 1982. Dr. Rasdal retired in 1992.
Helen Rasdal died in 1989 and Harry married Louise Anderson in January 1990. She died in October 2005. Harry had two older sisters, Eau Claire, and Billie and a younger sister Donna, all deceased.
