Dr. Thomas Jacob Milleman 78 of Glen Ellyn, Illinois passed away April 15, 2019 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Schaumburg, Illinois of complications of Lewy body disease.
Thomas was born January 5, 1941 in Spencer, Iowa the son of Anthony (Tony) and Helen Milleman. He grew up on a farm north of Spencer. He attended the country school Meadow No. 9 until 8th grade, where he then attended the new Sacred Heart Parochial School in Spencer. Thomas was one of its first graduates and he then graduated from Spencer High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1962 in Industrial Technology. He later received a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology in 1965 from the University of Northern Colorado and a PH.D. degree from the University of Missouri in 1974 in Industrial Technology with a concentration in electronics. Thomas taught electronics in high school in the Chicago area suburbs from 1962 to 1969. He then was Professor of Electronics and Coordinator of the Electronic Technology Department at the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois from 1969 until his retirement.
Thomas lived in his home in Glen Ellyn and enjoyed traveling, gardening, and a special love of woodworking and tools. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature, wildlife, gardening, with some hunting and fishing and visiting relatives and the family farm in Spencer, Iowa. He had a long time friendship with his special friend, Frances Dean and traveled and spent time together with her and her family. Tom was a member and active in the DuPage Woodworkers Club.
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living of Schaumburg, Illinois and the Amita Hospice Program Alexian Brothers Hospital of Elk Grove, Illinois and all hospice programs everywhere who help those in time of need.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents: Tony and Helen, and by nephew, Dr. John Milleman and his wife, Katie. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Leo (Jane) Milleman of Ames, IA. His sister, Mary (Virgil) Young of Waukee, IA. Nephews: Dr. Mark (Joanne) Milleman of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Ryan (Katie) Jenkins of Johnston, Iowa and niece, Katie (Mark) Charter of Ankeny, Iowa and seven grandnieces and nephews. Also his very special friend, Frances Dean of Schaumburg, Illinois along with friends, neighbors, and comrades.
