Duane Allen Dotson, the son of Everett and Thelma Whaley Dotson, was born August 23, 1929 on a farm in Clay County, Iowa. He attended the rural Lake Center School all twelve years of his education, graduating in 1947. He then went to work for a small grocery store in Langdon and later for a super market in Spencer.
Duane started working for the Spencer Municipal Utilities in April of 1950. He was united in marriage to Norma Nelsen on September 1, 1950. To this union was born two girls and two boys. Duane worked for the utilities until he retired on August 23, 1991.
Duane was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, managing a softball team and watching Minnesota Twins baseball. For many years he traveled with his family to over thirty states and across Canada. In retirement he and Norma traveled with their trailer to the lakes fishing, the Knoxville National car races and The Old Time Country Music Festivals.
Duane passed away at home on January 28, 2014 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Voss; grandson, Anthony Dotson and 2 brothers: Ervin and Melvin Dotson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma of Spencer; daughter, Janet Friesen of Spencer, IA; sons: Larry (Danice) Dotson of Spencer, IA and Rodney Dotson of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Dwight Dotson of Bloomington, MN, Tom (Carolyn) Dotson of Spencer, IA and Dennis (Lois) Dotson of Milford, IA; many relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 3, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
