Duane Floyd Fisk, the son of Floyd and Frieda Ilten Fisk, was born December 14, 1923 in Spencer, Iowa. He received his early education in country school and later from Spencer High School where he graduated. Following his schooling, Duane entered the United States Army on December 2, 1950 and served during the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1953.
Duane married Greta Kanstrup on August 24, 1952 in Spencer. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer and then moved to Whittier, CA until moving back to Spencer in 1963. Duane farmed and later became an insurance agent for 28 years. Duane and Greta also owned and operated the Clothes Horse in Spencer. Duane was a member of the First English Lutheran Church where he served as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. He also was a member of Rotary, Independent Insurance Agents, American Legion, Spencer Ambassadors, served on Spencer City Council and Clay County Board of Supervisors. He also took tickets at the Clay County Fair for over 50 years. In his spare time, Duane enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and playing cards.
Duane passed away on August 30, 2010, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger.
He is survived by his wife, Greta of Spencer; 4 daughters and their husbands: Pam & Steve Comer of Newton, IA, Debbie & Dick Bristow of Belle Plaine, MN, Judy & Tom Adair of Norwalk, IA and Lisa & Patrick Wiegers of Granada Hills, CA; 7 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Norma Briedinger of Madison, MS and Donna & H.J. Lichty of Waterloo, IA; sister-in-law, Nancy Fisk of Longmont, CO; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 3, 2010, at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
