Duane Lange, Sr.

Duane Harold Lange, Sr., the son of Harold and Velma (Mathison) Lange, was born January 15, 1936, on a farm near Sutherland, IA. His childhood years were spent in Sutherland where he attended school. After high school, he started driving truck for various companies. He also worked as a farmhand, carpenter, mechanic and police officer for the city of Sutherland. On December 31, 1971, Duane married Patricia Sue Plagman Patrick in Spencer, IA. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Everly, working for Ed Geerdes. In 1975, the couple moved to Spencer where Duane worked for Spencer Ford Tractor for 10 years and then Durnell Engineering for 5 years. In 2000, Duane worked for Joe LeClair as a truck driver; and in 2008, he worked for Erickson Trucks-n-Parts in Jackson, MN. Duane enjoyed four wheeling with his grandkids, watching Western's, playing solitaire on the computer, woodworking and telling stories, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Duane passed away at the age of 73 on Monday, January 26, 2009, at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Grant; his sister Phyllis Anderson and brother-in-law, Charlie Anderson. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat of Spencer, IA; three daughters: Angela Hample and husband, Ken of Jackson, MN, Mellissa Konrady and husband, Matt of Spencer, IA and Audra Durnell and husband, David of Duncombe, IA; his son, Duane "J.R." Lange of Spencer, IA; his three children from a previous marriage: Garry and Larry Lange and Linda Stegman; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Dorothy Bauer and husband, Harry of Holstein, IA, Janice Thomas and husband, Ralph of Sioux City, IA, Mary Draper and husband, Bob of Sutherland, IA; one brother, Gerald Lange and his wife, Phyllis of Sutherland, IA; other relatives and many friends.
