Duane Ray Gustin

Duane Ray Gustin, the son of Archie and Mildred (Somers) Gustin, was born May 7, 1933 in Dickens, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Logan Township, where he received his early education in Rosebud country school near Gillett Grove. He completed his early education, graduating from Gillett Grove High School in 1951. Duane later attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA and later Morningside College in Sioux City, until being drafted into the Army in 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the Dickens area. Duane married Janice Beck in March of 1956 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, he worked in Colorado Springs, CO for one year, until returning to the Dickens area in the summer of 1957 to farm with his father. They were divorced in 1966. To this union was born three children: David, Linda and Brent. Duane married Glenda Carpenter on August 5, 1967 in Dickens. Throughout their married life, they continued to farm near Dickens on their Century Farm. Duane and Glenda were blessed with two more children: Ronald and Steven. He was a member of the Dickens United Methodist Church in Dickens. He was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post #33 of Ruthven. Duane was inducted into the Iowa State Bowling Hall Of Fame in 2010. Duane passed away at his home near Dickens on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Jean Gustin and a grandson, Johnathan Clyde Gustin. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Glenda Gustin of Dickens; his children: David and his wife, Carolyn Gustin of Dickens, Linda Gustin of Thornton, CO, Brent Gustin of Milford, IA, Ronald Gustin of Texas and Steven Gustin and his wife, Pamela of Dickens; 6 grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be 3:00 P.M., Friday, November 29, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Dickens.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

INTERMENT
Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #33 of Ruthven at the Dickens Cemetery. Following the graveside services there will be a lunch served at the Community Building in Dickens.
