Duwayne Erb

DuWayne Samuel Erb, the son of Leonard and Scelora (Jones) Erb, was born on May 24, 1923, in Wessington, SD. At a young age, the family moved to Bayard, Iowa, where he was raised and received his early education. On May 28, 1942, DuWayne married Wilma Garnes in St. Joseph, Missouri. Following their marriage, they lived in Bayard for a short time, where they owned and operated a feed store. The couple then moved to Des Moines, where DuWayne worked at Firestone Tire. He then went to work for HyLine Hatchery, where he stayed for over 50 years, working in Des Moines, Dallas Center and then moving to Spencer. DuWayne was a member of Dayspring Assembly of God Church. He also volunteered his time as a Boy Scout Leader, 4-H, Special Olympics and Reins of Hope, a therapeutic horseback riding program for students with disabilities. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but spending time with his grandchildren was most important to him. DuWayne passed away on June 8, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma in 2007; his infant daughter, Kathy; his daughter, Sharon Daggett; his son, Barry; his grandson, David Christopher Trapp; his sister, Dorothy Hillman and his brother, Larry. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Connie Biersma (John) of Earlham, IA, Peggy Andreasen (Chuck), of Spirit Lake, IA, Vicky Plagman (Randy) of Spencer, IA and Jennifer Newgard (John) of Milford, IA; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; two brothers: J.R. (Jane) Erb of Springfield, MO, Bud (Gwen) Erb of Minburn, IA; two sisters: Linda Erb of Springfield, MO and Sandra Kingrea of Hampton, TN; daughter-in-law, Barb Erb of Crystal, MN; son-in-law, Dave Daggett of Minburn, IA; two sisters-in-law: Lula Garnes of Bayard, IA and Katherine Garnes of Coon Rapids, IA; other relatives and friends.
