Dwayne Arloe Ness

Dwayne Arloe Ness was born May 29,1924 in Pocahontas County. Dwayne was the oldest son of Ingvald and Alma Forsberg Ness. He graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa and Indian Hills Community College. Dwayne was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Army. He then farmed in the Peterson, Linn Grove area during his early years. His last twenty working years was spent as a Computer Operator for the State Comptroller's office in Des Moines until he retired in 1986. After his retirement, Dwayne continued to live in Des Moines and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. After a series of strokes, Dwayne spent the last three years of his life at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where he received loving and wonderful care from a very caring staff until his death on October 2nd. Dwayne was married to Shirley Rae Huntress in 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. Shirley preceded him in death in 1987. Dwayne is survived by two brothers--Carmen Ness of Huntington Beach, California and Larry Ness of Albert Lea, Minnesota and one sister Evelyn Bollinger of North Liberty, Iowa. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews. Dwayne was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell Ness and his parents Dwayne was devoted to his family and was most happy when he could spend time visiting and reminiscing about the past. He was admired and respected by his nieces and nephews who lovingly called him the "bull of the woods" because of all the good times they had with him on camping trips and around the campfire at our family reunions. His love of family was very deep and he will be greatly missed by all of them. Rest in peace.
