Dwight "Dick" Richard Barnard, the son of Charles D. and Helen (Kunath) Barnard, was born December 11, 1927, in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on the family farm east of Gillett Grove. Dick was confirmed at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. He graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1945. On November 20, 1949, Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Maxine Larson in Aryshire, IA. Following their marriage, they resided on Dick's grandmother's farm. Dick farmed the family farms until 1971 when he and his family moved to Webb. Dick went to work for the Eaton Corporation from 1974 until 1990. Following his retirement from Eaton's, Dick went to work part time for the Webb Feed Store. Dick was an avid sports fan. He played basketball, fast pitch softball for the Spencer Moose, and was a member of the 1947 Northwest Iowa Baseball League Champions playing for Rossie. Dick was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. In his free time Dick enjoyed woodworking, nature, taking pictures, and most of all watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events.
