Dwight Joseph "Joe" Miller, the son of Frank and Ruth (Eastman) Miller, was born May 24, 1930 in Sioux Rapids, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Greenville/Rossie area, where he received his education, graduating from Greenville/Rossie Consolidated School in 1948. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Marine Corp from 1949, until his honorable discharge in 1955, achieving the rank of Sergeant. After his schooling, he returned to the Greenville/Rossie area.
Joe married Betty Lou Anderson on January 19, 1957 in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer, where he worked at Whittenburg Distributing working in all aspects of the company for 30 years. For the last 7 years of his working life, he worked at Spencer Schools, until his retirement in 2001. Joe was an avid fisherman and most of his spare time was spent fishing in area fishing holes.
Joe passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; an an infant son, Michael, a sister, Marjean Crute; a son, Steven Miller, and his wife, Betty on February 13, 2011.
Left to cherish his memory are 2 daughters: Susan and her husband, Joe Malloy, of Des Moines, IA and Barbara and her husband, Mick Conlon of Snohomish, WA; one son, Jeff and his wife, Kelley Miller, of St. Cloud, MN; 7 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers: Marland Miller of California and Lance Miller and his wife, Mary of Pennsylvania; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
A military flag presentation will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1 - American Legion of Spencer, Iowa following the services at the funeral home.
