Dyann Delores Getting

     DyAnn Delores Getting, the daughter of H. Wayne and Neva Olhausen Tibbetts, was born January 28, 1941 in Hartley, IA.  DyAnn attended school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1959.  After high school, DyAnn continued her education at Buena Vista College where she received her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education in 1964.

     On September 9, 1962, DyAnn married James Ray “J.R.” Getting at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa.  Following their marriage, DyAnn taught school in Ocheydan and at North School in Spencer.  She then stayed home to raise her children.  She also helped Jim in his accounting business, delivered newspapers and worked for the City Directory.  She had a passion for volunteering, especially when it benefitted children. For 11 years, DyAnn taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church.  When her boys were young, she spent 15 years as a Cub Scout Leader and Den Mother.  DyAnn organized the Cub Scout Olympics and spent countless hours dedicated to the Pinewood Derby races and behind the scenes work.  She loved to volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile.  In 2014, she was honored with the Hero of the Heartland Award by the Red Cross for her many years of service.  DyAnn was long time member of the board at Golfview Condos.  She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Chapter #116 and past Worthy Matron.  She was also a Rainbow Girl, White Shrine, Bosiance and active participant in the Spencer area Shrine Club and Abu Bekr.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, playing on her tablet and watching TV.  DyAnn was very creative and crafty.  She

crocheted, tatted, sewed (including her children’s clothes), cross stiched, made decorations/awards for Cub Scouts and school projects.  She could talk to anyone and made friends wherever she went.  Most of all, DyAnn loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

     DyAnn passed away on March 7, 2019 at her home in Spencer at the age of 78.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim and her son, Bradley.

     She is survived by her children: Daniel (Candice) of Spencer, Thomas of Spencer, Michael (Christina Sanchez) of Simi Valley, CA and Melissa (Scott) Busch of Spencer; five grandchildren: Rachael Getting, Corbin Getting, Rhyan, Alexander and Charlie Busch; brother, Gary Tibbetts; other relatives and friends.
