Earl Curry Jr., age 89, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 29, 2014. Earl was born October 24, 1925 to Earl Sr. and Doris (Williams) Curry. He grew up in Spencer with short stints in Texas and Seattle Washington. He moved back to Spencer where he married Effie Taylor on June 22, 1947. They raised 4 children on an acreage near Everly. He worked for 30 years at Spencer Foods. Earl and Effie then moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked for the city of Portland Park Department until he retired at the age of 65. They moved back to Spencer in 1989 where they have lived since.
Earl loved to fish and tell stories about the ones that got away. His favorite fishing stories involve fishing in Florida, Canada, Minnesota and Alaska. Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River and halibut fishing at Kodiak Alaska were highlights of his life.
Earl is preceded in death by his son Casey, his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife Effie and his 3 daughters: Judy (Dick) Saling of Coos Bay, Oregon, Becky (Don) Schafer of Baker City, Oregon and Peggy (Steve) Cizek of Dickens, Iowa. He has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
SERVICES
Memorial Services and Luncheon will will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Oneota Park Lodge in Spencer.
