Earl Silas Skaar

October 28, 1914 — January 13, 2008

Earl Silas Skaar, the son of Swen and Myrtle Hagen Skaar, was born October 28, 1914 in Gaza, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Gaza, where he received his early education. His family moved to Primghar, when he was in the 6th grade, where he continued his education, graduating from Primghar High School in 1934. Following graduation, he worked at William's Grocery Store and farmed at home. Earl married Leona Margaret Kraft on December 29, 1939 at the Horton Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Following their marriage, he continued to work at Williams Grocery Store. He began farming until moving to Ocheyedan, where he farmed for one year until moving to Melvin. They moved near Gaza, Iowa, where Earl farmed, until his retirement. They moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he operated the Star Mail route for one year. Earl and Leona moved back to Gaza and continued farming in 1959, until retiring and moving to Hartley. Following his retirement, Earl delivered pharmaceutical products for Hartley Drug Store. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Earl passed away at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa on Sunday, January 13, 2007 at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen, a sister, Dorothy Van Heuvelen and a brother, Mervin. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leona of Sanborn; one daughter, Joyce and her husband Paul Heitritter of Elkader, Iowa; one son, Benny and his wife, Janice Skaar of Fond Du Lac, WI; 9 grandchildren, including his namesake, Lee Earl Skaar; 11 great grandchildren, including his namesake, Carson Earl Schaa; a brother, Elgin Skaar of San Francisco, CA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. A lunch and time of fellowship will immediately follow the services at the church.

Visitation will begin 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 16th at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley.

INTERMENT
Prairie View Cemetery Paullina, Iowa 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 17, 2008 following the lunch at the church. There will also be a coffee and time of fellowship following the graveside services at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
