Earl Verner Angell, the son of Paul and Magna Milde, was born October 11, 1922 in Lankin, ND. He received his early education and graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1940 were he was a member of the National Honor Society. Earl served in the Coast Guard during World War II and Civil Air Patrol for many years. Earl then continued his education and graduated from Moody Bible Institute of Chicago in 1952. Earl had surrendered his life to Christ as a young man and has served Him since.
Earl enjoyed a long career in the United States Postal service including years as Superintendent. Remaining single in this life, he dedicated himself to serving Christ through several ministries. He worked in and supported the Gideon Bible ministry for decades. Served on the board of Joy Broadcasting, a Christian radio ministry. He also organized several tours of Moody Broadcasting in Chicago. Earl had a great love for the Salvation Army, World Vision, Pacific Garden Mission, Chicago and Christian Aid Mission. One of Earl's greatest passions was for training Missionary Pilots. There are two schools which specialize in mission aviation training, Moody Bible's Spokane campus and LeTourneau University in Texas. Earl was a faithful prayer support and financial donor to both, as well as Angel Aircraft of Orange City, IA headed by another Moody graduate who designs and builds special aircraft for Christian missions.
Earl was an avid stamp collector as was his mother, Magna. He also enjoyed traveling, Earl toured many countries and especially Scandinavia.
Earl returned to Spencer, Iowa in part because of the reputation of care at St. Lukes. Their heart felt care for Earl and others living there made his final season on earth a safe and peaceful time. Earl almost never complained about anything and he loved Cheeseburger soup at the American Classic Cafe Earl was also fond of Many Hands for Haiti, which received many and varied gifts from Earl as he downsized in later years. He had no real attachment to earthly things. His local church family at Grace United Methodist Church remembered Earl frequently with notes of encouragement. Special thanks to Pastor Kay Hooper who ministered peace to Earl in a special way and the entire staff at St. Luke's in Spencer for their genuine care for this saintly man.
Earl passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 93. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Roy.
Earl is survived by one nephew, Don Angell of Elburn, IL; one niece, Diane of California; and many people impacted by his life and ministry.
