Earnest "Ernie" Stoermer

March 15, 1935 — June 9, 2018

Spencer

Earnest Leo Stoermer was born on March 15, 1935 to Leo and Wanda (Prentice) Stoermer on a farm north of Greenville. As a young child, the family moved to the Gillett Grove area. Earnest attended school at Gillet Grove for all 12 years. Earnest was a member of the Royal Methodist Church.
After high school, Earnest purchased his first truck and transported grain and livestock. Ernie joined the Iowa National Guard and served for six years.
In 1957, he married Janice Carlson from Webb. They had a daughter, Sheryl Lynn, and a son, Douglas Allen.
They purchased the Champlain service station and gas tank wagon business in Gillett Grove and operated it until 1963 when they moved to the Royal area. Several years later, they purchased several trucks, forming Stoermer Truck Line. After their children finished school and college, they moved to a warmer climate and relocated to Arizona. In 1989, they were called to St. Louis, MO to live with their daughter, Sheryl, who was battling cancer. After Sheryl's death in 1991 they moved to Spencer.
Ernie and Janice spent their winters in Texas and Arizona beginning in 1994. They enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel camper and accumulated many friendships along the way.
Ernie loved to hunt, snowmobile, fish, and travel. He also enjoyed his "coffee buddies." Ernie developed a talent with computers and spent a lot of time organizing photos and fixing peoples' computers. He also enjoyed the laughter and good natured teasing that took place when out of town guests came to stay.
Preceded in death was his daughter Sheryl, his parents, Leo and Wanda Stoermer, brother-in-law David Essick, and in-laws Clifton and Mildred Carlson.
Left to mourn is his wife, Janice of Spencer, son Doug Stoermer (and Chris Wallin) of Melvin, sister Monica of Sergeant Bluff, brother Edward (and Connie) Stoermer of New Bern, N.C., many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
