Earnest 'Gus' Freeburg

Gus Freeburg, the son of Gus Junior and Florence (Tuttle) Freeburg, was born May 10, 1943 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his early education. His family moved to Colorado Springs, CO when he was 14 years old, where he received his G.E.D. Gus entered the military and served his country with the U.S. Army from 1960, until his honorable discharge in 1963. Following his discharge he worked as a civilian at Peterson Field from 1963 until 1974. During this time, he also continued his education at El Paso Community College, where he received his AA degree in accounting. Gus married Marjorie Hurd on June 10, 1967 in Colorado Springs, CO. After working at Peterson Field, he began working for the Army Corps of Engineers from 1974 until 1982 in Omaha. They then moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he continued in accounting for the Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1998. They moved back to Spencer in 2002. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer, where he worked as a church volunteer. Gus also loved to fish, play golf, played softball into his late fifties and remained very active. Gus passed away at his home in Spencer at the age of 68 following a long illness. His father preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marjorie of Spencer; two children: David Freeburg of Spencer and Mark and his wife, Nicole of Omaha, NE; three granddaughters: Caela, Ashley and Abbey Freeburg all of Omaha, NE; his mother, Florence Freeburg of Spencer; two sisters: Vickie Freeburg of Bremen, GA and Valarie and her husband, Buddy Newby of Citra, FL; other relatives and friends. In Lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial fund to be given to the First Baptist Church in Spencer.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Spencer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9:00 P.M., Friday with the family present from 5 to 7:00 P.M., Friday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
