E.C. 'Pee Wee' Rogers

March 5, 1926 — March 30, 2016

Elwyn Charles "Pee Wee" Rogers, the son of Charles and Etta Estella Rogers, was born March 5, 1926 in Newell, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Newell, where he received his education, graduating from Newell High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper during WWII from June of 1944 until his honorable discharge in July of 1946. Shortly after a "love at first sight" blind date, Pee Wee married Aletharae "Rae" Thomas on February 24, 1947 in Webb, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed for a few years before purchasing a grocery store in Webb, Iowa which they operated for nearly 40 years until their retirement. During his working years, they also owned and operated a grocery store in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Pee Wee had a love for horses and raised several different breeds along with mules on his acreage near Webb. In his retirement years he was an expert buying, selling and collecting pottery and stoneware from all over the United States. Pee Wee and Rae wintered in Ft. Myers, FL for 20 years, making many new friends that they kept in touch with over the years. He passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the age of 90. Pee Wee was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Vickie Rogers; a son-in-law, Ron Sanculi; a brother, Olin and two sisters: Vera and Mary Evelyn. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rae of Spencer; one daughter, Rae Lynn Sanculi of Ruthven, IA; two sons: Lee (Trang) Rogers of Lewisville, TX and John (Jane Corboy) Rogers of Mosier, OR; one foster son, Terry (Glenda) Webster of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; as well as treasured relatives and longtime friends.
