Edith Backstrom

Edith "Edie" Katherine Backstrom, the daughter of Glenn and Mary Joan Randall Dillivan, was born November 25, 1951, in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer where she received her education. Following High School, Edie attended Beauty School in New Orleans. She lived in New Orleans for 20 years. Edie moved back to Spencer in 2001 and began working at the Twilight Lounge as a bartender and waitress. On July 17, 2006, Edie married Jerry Backstrom. They made their home in Spencer until moving to Spirit Lake in 2007. Edie and Jerry enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending their winters in Florida where they loved their time spent with friends around the campfire. Edie also was an awesome golfer. Edie passed away on June 2, 2009 at her home in Spirit Lake at the age of 57. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sally Gore; nephew, Jameson Sierck and in-laws: Ottis and Vyonne Pieratt. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Spirit Lake, IA; three children: Douglas Thorman Jr. and his wife, Kim of Boston, MA, Melissa Bruno and her husband, Mark of Ione, OR and Stacy Thorman and her husband, Erick of Spencer; 2 brothers: Tom Dillivan and wife, Karol of Schaumberg, IL and John Dillivan of Eagle River, AK; sister, Glenda Sierck and her husband, Greg of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.
