Edna Maxine Erichsen, the daughter of William Guy and Mary Edna (Powell) Woodall, was born January 8, 1924 at the farm in Highland Township north of Sutherland, Iowa. The youngest of six children, she admitted to being spoiled by her siblings. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1941. She attended business school in Des Moines.
Edna married Elgar Erichsen on October 5, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Following their honeymoon trip to California, they settled into their home on the Erichsen family farm east of Sutherland, raising crops and livestock there for many years. Their Hereford cattle were their pride and joy. In later years, they enjoyed watching the birds, nature and wildlife around them, along with visiting with neighbors and watching various construction projects in the area.
Edna loved her flowers. She was always anxious to see her perennials show up each spring. She was also very fond of the dogs and cats that were a part of her daily routine, before entering the nursing home. She also enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Twins fan.
Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. She also belonged to the United Methodist Women, Circle and Church Board, holding several offices in all of them throughout the years.
She passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Sutherland Care Center at the age of 93. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elgar on April 2, 2008; three brothers and two sisters; 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law's, Louise (Mrs. Donald) Woodall of Sutherland and Elaine (Mrs. Merle) Woodall of Warminster, Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, cousins; other relatives, along with many dear friends.
