EdnaMay Hein, the daughter of Balthasar and Helen (Gutknecht) Durst, was born on June 1, 1925, in rural Spencer, IA. She received her early education at a country school in rural Spencer and graduated from Lake Center High School in 1942.
On December 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Darrel Hein in Dickens, IA. To this union two children were born: Dennis Darrel in 1948 and Dianna Lynn in 1950. They made their home in Spencer and in 1953 they relocated to Cherokee, IA. When the marriage ended in divorce in 1960, EdnaMay and the children returned to Spencer. She was employed by Marvin Burk Photography as a darkroom technician until her retirement. EdnaMay enjoyed embroidery, quilting and baking. Several of her quilts were awarded ribbons at the Clay County Fair. She also was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
EdnaMay moved to Des Moines in 2002, to live with her daughter, Dianna. EdnaMay passed away on August 20, 2009, in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Paul and Ervin Durst and half brother, Harold Gutknecht.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis and his wife, Jackie of Spirit Lake, IA; her daughter, Dianna Peterson of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Glenn (Glenda) Durst, Donald (Eileen) Durst and Clifford (Ardell) Durst all of Spencer; IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. EdnaMay will be missed by those who loved her.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
