Edward 'Buster' Phipps

Edward was born May 25, 1930 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Ernest F. and Ruth H. (Weaver) Phipps. He was raised on a farm close to Sioux Rapids, receiving his education from the Sioux Rapids Community School District where he graduated from high school in 1950. After graduation Edward enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1950 to 1954, stationed in Guam and the Philippine Islands operating heavy construction equipment. Upon discharge from the Navy, Edward engaged in farming across the road from where he was raised. On January 17, 1955 he married Lucille Lena Weisbrod. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a son Franklin and a daughter Sheila. Edward enjoyed making radio controlled model airplanes and flying them at special meets and for his own recreational pleasure. Lucille died in 1987. Edward retired from farming in 1988 at which time he and special friend, Geneva Grey, enjoyed life in the country and extensive camping and traveling. Geneva died in 2005 at which time Edward moved to Spencer, Iowa where he was baptized into the Faith Pentecostal Church. In 2012 he moved to the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa where he died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Edward Harold 'Buster' Phipps, age 84, died on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory is a son Frank, (Debbie) Phipps of Everly; a daughter Sheila Phipps of Mankato, MN; a brother Clifford Dale (Martha) Phipps of Spirit Lake; a sister Avis Davis of Spirit Lake; one granddaughter Michelle (Shaun) Olson of Spencer; 3 great granddaughters, Chelsea Sheley of Spencer and Emma and Mia Olson of Spencer; a nephew Dan (Deborah) Davis of Spirit Lake, great nephew Mike Davis and fiancee Tanya Olsen plus other relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, parents, an infant sister, two nieces, Teresa Davis and Denise Phillips, and a special friend, Geneva Grey.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 13, at the Faith Pentecostal Church in Spencer.

1:30P.M., Wednesday Lone Tree Cemetery Sioux Rapids, Iowa Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Graeber-Rowe Post #394 of Sioux Rapids.
