Edwin Geerdes

      Edwin Theodore Geerdes passed away on December 28, 2018, at the age of 94.

      He was the second son of John B. and Jennie (Reents) Geerdes and was born January 29, 1924, on the farm south of Everly, Iowa.  He attended Everly Community School.  He remained on the family farm when his parents moved to Milford, Iowa.  He married Ellen Carol Hirt on August 5, 1951, and raised a family of five boys:  Dale, Doug, John, Joe and Dean.

      Edwin participated on several different committees including Conservation Board, Clay County Cattlemen’s, Everly School Board, Farmers Co-op, Lions Club and Golden K.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard and wife, Irene; brother, Harlan; sister, Marilyn Pearson and husband, Everett; sister, Doris Wiemers and husband, Louis; daughter-in-law, Barbara Geerdes (wife of Dale), and son, Dwight “Joe” Geerdes.

      Edwin is survived by his wife, Ellen, of 67 years; sister, Janet and husband, Arlyn Will; Billie Geerdes (wife of Harlan); four sons; three daughters-in law; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

      Edwin will be truly missed and his memories will be cherished.
