Eileen Maree Gengler, the daughter of Arnold M. and Alice M. (Handeland) Olson, was born May 6, 1953 in Estherville, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Ringsted, IA area, where she received her education, graduating from Lincoln Central High School in Gruver, IA. She continued her education at Waldorf Junior College in Forest City and later UNI in Cedar Falls, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Eileen began working for Boyden-Hull Community Schools as an English teacher in 1975.
Eileen married Wayne Gengler on June 10, 1978 at her home church Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Estherville, IA. After teaching for many years at Boyden-Hull, she received her master’s degree in School Guidance Counseling in 1998 at Wayne State College in Wayne, NE and began working as a Guidance Counselor at Spencer High School for many years, touching many students lives until her retirement in 2016. She currently was a substitute teacher for the district. Eileen was very active in her school, her community and her church, Bethany Lutheran in Spencer. She had a passion for quilting and loved to teach her nieces, family and friends to learn. Hundreds of her quilts have been shared with others. She was on the Foster Review Board, Daybreaker’s Kiwanis, and Clay Co. PALS.
She passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 10, 2022 in Spencer at the age of 68. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Spencer; her siblings: Ronald (Cathy) Olson of Estherville, IA, Marlys Donnelly of Sioux City, IA, Marleen (Doug) Buss of Emmetsburg, IA and Dennis (Martha) Olson of Ringsted, IA; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.
