Elaine Duhn Horn

February 19, 1920 — April 29, 2008

Elaine Duhn Horn, the daughter of Thore and Marie (Sandvik) Duhn, was born February 19, 1920, in Vining, MN. Her childhood years were spent in the Vining and Battle Lake, MN areas where she attended school and graduated from Battle Lake High School. After graduation Elaine attended a two-year college and graduated with a secretarial degree. Following school, Elaine worked for a few businesses in the secretarial field before moving to Washington DC where she worked for the Department of Treasury. On July 16, 1943, Elaine was united in marriage to Dean A. Horn in Florida. Dean's Naval career brought them to many cities. Some of the places Elaine lived in were North Dakota, Boston, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, and Iowa. Elaine was a member of Lost Island Lutheran Church since 1992. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, a Girl Scout Brownie leader, and a past president of the Navy Wives. She enjoyed moving to new cities and meeting new people, but most of all Elaine loved being around her family especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. On April 29, 2008, Elaine passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Edna Elliot and Clara Thorson; and four brothers: Harold Duhn, William Duhn, Irven Duhn, Gilbert Duhn; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Daley. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Deanne (Douglas) McClintock of New York, Karen Daley of Florida; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Gladys Smith of Los Angeles, CA; and other relatives and many friends.
