Elaine Ruth Peterson

Elaine Ruth Peterson, the daughter of Albert and Grace Riley Smith, was born July 20, 1926 in rural Cherokee, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where she received her education and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1945.
Elaine married Clifford Peterson on June 30, 1947 at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Marcus and Cherokee area and also a few years at Lytton and Yetter, Iowa. They spent their retirement years in Sutherland. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed sewing, painting and spending time with her family.
Elaine passed away at Pearl Valley of Sutherland on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, infant grandson, Jeremy Peterson, her brother, Russell Smith and sister, Maxine Nelson.
She is survived by her six children: Allan and Richard of Scotland, AR, LuAnn Taylor of Rockwell, NC, Peggy Christensen of Sutherland, IA, Larry Peterson of Sutherland, IA and Riley Peterson of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Church of Christ in Sutherland, IA
