Elenor Florence Gertrude Speck, the daughter of Rudoph and Anna (Torkelson) Lempke, was born February 10, 1913 in Fort Dodge, IA. She was raised in Fort Dodge and Ringsted, Iowa, where she received her education in country schools.
Elenor married Albert Raymond Speck on April 7, 1935 in Graettinger, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in Dickens, IA. They later moved to Graettinger, IA, where Albert operated a garage and also farmed for many years. After retiring from farming, they moved to Spencer, where she spent her time babysitting for numerous families, which she loved like her own. Elenor also enjoyed playing bingo, collecting teddy bears, cooking, baking and playing cards, but most of all, family was always first and foremost in her life.
Elenor passed away at Northshire Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert on February 1, 1973; a great grandson, Brian Joseph; sister, Alice Hanson and two brothers-in-law.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Joanna and her husband, Clayton Mingus of Spencer, IA and Betty and her husband, David Smith of Spirit Lake, IA; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two sisters: Mable and her husband, Jordan Knudson of Spirit Lake, IA and Viola Douglas of Fenton, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
