Elizabeth E. Markley, the daughter of Wallace C. and Mildred D. (Petersen) Mann, was born September 15, 1920 in Woodbine, IA. Her childhood years were spent living on farms near Woodbine and near Missouri Valley, IA where she attended country schools through the 8th grade. While she was in high school in Missouri Valley, her family moved to Milford, Iowa where she continued her education, graduating from Milford High School in 1938. Elizabeth attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA and then transferred to Mercy Hospital Nursing School in Council Bluffs, IA where she received her nursing degree. Following her schooling, she worked for various hospitals in Iowa and California.
Elizabeth worked as the Public Health Nurse for Harrison County, Iowa from 1955 to 1963. She later moved to California, where she taught LVN Nursing at Mesa Community College in San Diego, CA. She retired from nursing in 1985 and moved to Spencer, Iowa. Throughout her life, she was a very independent and caring woman whose qualities were demonstrated through her care of her patients and students, her two daughters, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert J. Mann; her sister-in-law, Sally Mann and her grandson, Scott E. Folck.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Rene Markley of San Diego, CA and Jan McClary and her husband, Gary of Bella Vista, AR; one granddaughter, Christine Folck of Antelope, CA; three great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
As per Elizabeth's request there will be no public services. There will be a private family service at a later date.
