Ella M. Nielsen

Ella Marjoria Nielsen, the daughter of Arthur Tillson and Valda Kristofferson Guthrie, was born September 4, 1918 in Milford, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Milford, Iowa, where she received her education in Milford schools. Ella married Donovan Irving Nielsen on October 2, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, Iowa, where she cared for her family, while her husband operated Nielsen Tire and Appliance for many years. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a Sunday school superintendent. Ella also was a Cub Scout Leader and was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Most importantly Ella enjoyed shopping and taking care of her children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ella passed away at the Ruthven Care Center on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan in 1981; her brothers and sisters: Mae, John, Louise, Ammert, Lena, Dean, Glenn and Bub. She is survived by a son, Chris and his wife, Sandi Nielsen of Spencer; one daughter, Barbara and her husband, Michael Fischer of Spencer; three brothers: Lincoln and Milton Guthrie of Milford, IA and Jim Guthrie of Spencer; two sisters: Florence Mize of Camarillo, CA and Marcelle Franker of Anthon, IA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
