Elmer William Kraft was born on April 19, 1916, to Walter and Frieda (Langholz) Kraft in Sutherland. He attended school in Paulina. He worked on the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Mildred Imhoff in Sioux City, Iowa on September 19, 1939. He worked on the building of the Alaskan Highway in 1943 and again in 1948. Elmer served in the Navy from May 1945 until his honorable discharge in April 1946. He served on board the USS Wisconsin BB-64 during WWII. They made their home in Ashton and Ocheyedan before moving to May City, Iowa in 1948 when they built and operated the Kraft Tavern and Caf� in May City. They also owned and operated Kraft Trucking, from 1955 until the sold the business in 1975.
They built their home in May City in 1978. Elmer was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, gardening, playing pool, and visiting.
On Wednesday, July 26, 2006, Elmer passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, and brothers Arnold and Lester.
Left to Cherish his memory is his son, Mickey Kraft (Bev) of May City, IA; three grandchildren: Michael Kraft of Jacksonville, FL, Mitzi Glade (Dwight) of Ocheyedan, IA, Melissa Elsing (Shawn) of Worthington, MN; six great-grandchildren: Matt Kraft, of San Marcos, TX, Danielle Kraft, of Jacksonville, FL, Jesse and Nicholas Glade of Ocheyedan, IA, and Tori and Porter Elsing, of Worthington, MN; one sister, Leona (Earl) Skaar of Sanborn, IA brothers: Alvin (Margaret) Kraft of Sioux Falls, SD, Vernon (Rosie) of Harris, IA, Burdette (Pearl) of Benson, MN; sister-in-law Shirley Kraft of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law Dick (Vernetta) Imhoff of Spirit Lake, IA; two step-grandsons, Jim (Deb) Miller and Dale (Brenda) Miller, all of Galva; one step-granddaughter, Mary (Rex) Reisdorph of Holstein, IA; six step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 31, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, Iowa.
