Elna Lavonne Jensen

Elna Lavonne Jensen, the daughter of Robert William Roberts and Elva Jane (Martin) Roberts, was born on Monday, October 5, 1925. She was raised and received her early education in Clay township at a country school, Maple Grove School, near Royal, graduating as valedictorian from Royal High School in 1943. Elna was active in school sports playing basketball and enjoyed music playing the saxophone and also accompanying on the piano. Elna also loved riding horses and participated in many trail rides with her brother, Arlan. On August 4, 1946, Elna married Leslie I. Jensen in Spencer, Iowa. The couple resided in the Royal community where they farmed for many years. The couple was blessed with two children, Larry and Beverly. Elna was employed for 25 years at the Home State Bank in Royal retiring in 1985. Elna was a loving wife of 65 years, wonderful mother and is very proud of her grandchildren, their spouses and her great grandchildren. Elna was known for her kind heart and gentle spirit. Being with family and friends was a favorite source of joy. She is leaving a lasting legacy of relationships, character and love. Elna was currently a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal where she had been involved in Women of the Church, a Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, member of the Mary Circle Bible study and accompanied on the piano for many church and Sunday School occasions through the years. May our memories of Elna inspire us all to embrace each day God gives us. Elna passed away at the age of 88 on February 12, 2014, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA, where she had resided since October 31, 2011. Elna was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, on March 17, 2012; her parents; brother, Arlan W. Roberts; brother-in-law, Harold A. Jensen and his wife, Eunice. Left to cherish her memory are her loving family: son, Larry W. Jensen and his wife, Dianne of Coon Rapids, IA; daughter, Beverly J. Winter and her husband, Bob, of Spearfish, SD; grandson, Chris R. Jensen and his wife, Angie, great grandsons, Nick and Erik Jensen of Indianola, IA and granddaughter, Kerry K. Stok, and her husband, Marc, great granddaughter, Emma Stok and great grandson, Ian Stok of Apple Valley, MN; sister-in-law, Myrle M. Roberts, of Royal, IA; extended family; nieces and a nephew; other relatives and friends.
