Eloise Clair Shearer

February 14, 1902 — January 16, 2008

Eloise Clair Shearer, the daughter of Fred and Minnie Fults Smiley, was born February 14, 1902 in Clarion, Iowa. She received her early education and graduated in Stanwood. Eloise then attended and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught first grade for four years in the communities of Rockwell City, New Hartford and Grundy Center. Eloise married Austin M. Shearer on July 15, 1925 in Independence, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer, Iowa. Eloise was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, Evening Shade Chapter #116 Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Spencer Hospital Auxillary, Daughters of American Revolution and the Federated Woman's Club. In her spare time, Eloise enjoyed reading and camping. Eloise passed away on January 16, 2008 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer at the age of 105. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Austin; her daughter, Patricia Birchard and two sisters. She is survived by her grandchildren: Richard Birchard of San Fancisco, CA and Reba Serrano of Lakeside, AZ; two great grandchildren: James and Jennifer; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
