Ernest Clayton Wilcox

Ernest Clayton "Skip" Wilcox, the son of Clayton and Pearl Bendixen Wilcox, was born October 31, 1932 in Terril, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Terril where he received his education, graduating from Terril High School. Following high school, he attended the University of Iowa for two years. After his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Skip married Grayce M. Goodwin on December 31, 1955, in Dickinson County, Iowa, and following their marriage, they lived in Fort Worth, Texas, before moving to Terril, Iowa. While living near Terril, he worked for several farmers. For a short time, they ran a restaurant and bowling alley in Terril before moving to Spencer where they lived for many years. He was also associated with the Iowa Athletic Club in Iowa City. He worked at the Spencer Packing Plant and as a USDA Meat Inspector for 13 years until his retirement in March of 1997. While working for Spencer Foods, he helped set up Stub's Buffet in Spencer. Skip was a member of the Eagle's Club, Moose Lodge, V.F.W., and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Ernest passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, June 26, 2006, at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Grayce, on June 28, 2003; one sister, Lorna Nance. He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Barb and Jim Meyerdirk of Ayrshire, IA; three sons and their wives: Ron and Peggy Wilcox of Las Vegas, NV, Don Wilcox of Tonopah, AZ and Lon and Laura Wilcox of Ames, IA; his mother, Pearl Wilcox of Spencer, IA; seven grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and 2 step great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Kathryn and Virgil Schmeling of Moneta, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 30, 2006 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa

Visitation will begin on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening.
