Ervin Dale Harves, the son of Frederick and Lydia Stroham Harves, was born June 12, 1917, in Dickens, IA. He received his early education at a Freeman Country School and graduated from Dickens High School.
On March 18, 1939, Ervin was united in marriage to Jean Bernadine Hanna at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived and farmed south of Dickens their entire lives.
Ervin was a lifelong member of the Dickens Methodist Church and a Freeman township trustee. His other interests included fishing, trapping, hunting, and gardening. He and Bernadine also enjoyed driving around the countryside and lakes region observing birds and other wildlife while encountering friends and relatives along the way. In their later years, they looked forward to meeting their Saturday night friends at Burger King.
Ervin passed away at Longhouse Nursing Home on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by an infant brother; his parents; his wife; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Harves (Allen); and one granddaughter, Heidi Harves.
He will be greatly missed and survived by his two sons, Dr. Allen D. Harves of Dubuque, IA and Richard W. Harves and his wife, Ann, of rural Dickens, IA; his four granddaughter; Heather Harves of Kansas City, KS, Erin Harves and boyfriend, Shawn Barlow of Edwardsville, KS, Kristi and Dr. Brian Fisher, and Stephanie and Matt Essick and five great-grandchildren, Nate, Elisa, Brenna and Luke Fisher and Conner Essick, all of rural Dickens, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 5, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Dickens
