Esther M. Gunnerson, the daughter of Arnold and Anna (Sump) Mueller was born July 30, 1916 in rural Peterson, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm, where she received her education and later graduated as the Salutatorian from Brooke Consolidated School near Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's United Church near Peterson.
On September 3, 1936, Esther married Elmer N. Gunnerson at St. John's United Church of Christ south of Peterson. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Peterson area and while living near Peterson. She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for 22 years, was a member of the women's fellowship and played the piano for the church for many years. Esther was also a member of the OAO Club and the Tuesday Club. Her greatest enjoyment came from raising flowers, gardening, farming and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Gunnerson passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer N. Gunnerson; one great granddaughter, Kayla Ranae; 3 brothers and one son, Darwin in 2010.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons: David and his wife, Karen Gunnerson and Terrence and his wife, Sandi Gunnerson all of Peterson, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Janice Gunnerson of Sutherland, IA; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19 at St. John's United Church of Christ, rural Peterson, Iowa.
