Ethel Kathrine Westphalen

February 15, 1912 — January 30, 2013

Ethel Katherine Mayhew, the daughter of Albert and Sadie Cradduck Mayhew was born on February 15, 1912, in Royal, Iowa. Ethel attended school at Royal and graduated from Royal High school. Ethel married Roy Westphalen in Spencer on November 28, 1931. Following their marriage, they farmed for a short time then moved to Royal when Roy went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. Ethel worked at the grocery store in Royal for many years, through five different owners and up to her retirement. Ethel was a lifetime member of the St Louis Catholic Church. Ethel passed away at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on January 30, 2013 at the age of 100, just 16 days short of her 101st birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and her son-in-law, Jack Morton. Ethel is survived by one daughter, Joyce Morton of Sherman Oaks, California; a son Jerald and his wife Adeline of Spencer; two grandchildren; Karen Morten Forsey of Sherman Oaks, California; Pam Westphalen Orth and her husband Paul of Menomonie, Wisconsin; Pam's mother, Marlene Westphalen of Spencer and one great granddaughter, Natalia Forsey of Syracuse, NY.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 4, 2013 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal.
